Hi there! My name is Irfan and I am a MSc in Mathematics (JYU) and I hold a B.A. in Mathematics, Physics and German from Williams College in the United States. I am very much looking forward to meeting you!
I started off as an unofficial tutor for my friends back in elementary school. Even then, I always felt this incredible level of satisfaction when I would see that my explanation finally “clicked”.
You all probably know that incredible moment when something finally makes sense: that is why I am here. I believe everyone can understand everything and there is no such a thing as a “bad” student: we all just need teachers that can adjust themselves to our learning style and that is what I always strive to do.
My two favorite teaching experiences are from my time in the United States.
One summer, I got to work with two very ambitious students who wanted to skip some high school classes. In a mere 40 total contact hours, I managed to teach them all of Algebra II and Pre-Calc and they went on to do college math in their sophomore year.
Another meaningful experience was when I was a teaching assistant for Probability in my junior year at Williams College. I had a student who was debating whether or not she would be even able to continue with the mathematics major. By working together, not only was she able to ace probability, but she ended up being a teaching assistant herself and is now working at a top lab in the US.
I am a strong believer in being useful and giving back: how can I be of use to you?

* You are preparing for the SAT, ACT or TOEFL exams. I can also help you with the GRE if you are interested
* You want advice on studying abroad and securing scholarships. As someone who has obtained over $500,000 in scholarships, I know exactly how to guide you through the process.
TEACHING STYLE:
My teaching philosophy is really simple: the first goal is always to figure out what your goals are.
Are you here to prepare for an exam? Do you want to prepare for standardized tests required to go and study abroad? Are you just insanely curious about a topic? After we’ve established the basics, we then move on to the actual learning process!
I’ve always learned by doing and that is also how I teach. It is completely normal to make mistakes: I attribute my success to my willingness to fail more than the average person and keep on going. In every lesson, I will work together with you until you feel confident enough to do the work on your own and, even better, to explain it to somebody else (I am a big believer in the Feynmann method).
We will always work together to find the best learning materials for you. If we can’t find them, then we will write some materials together so you have a resource to fall back to :D.
ABOUT ME:
My name is Irfan and I've been teaching different subjects since elementary school!
I completed my basic education in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina after which I did my undergraduate studies in the United States and I've been living in Finland for almost four years. My preferred teaching language is English, but I’ve also taught students in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian as well as in German.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon! I am available to teach remotely, but I do find teaching in-person to be the most effective.
