I am classically trained but I also compose music extensively on a daily basis . Below you can see a video of my music. I also have an album out on Spotify and all platforms called olmus under the pen name Sebastian Mehr. I have had a life long passion for music and started playing when I was eight years old. I was the pianist the ballet program at Macalester College, LIse Houlton's professional class at MDT, the Metropolitan Ballet, and Ballet Minnesota. Growing up I studied 10 years with Yakov Gelfand, Phd from St. Petersburg Conservatory. I also studied in Hungary with Gulays Istvan, professor at the Franz List Conservatory in Budapest. I have been teaching piano for over fifteen years and my students advance rapidly. I can solve problems and spot what students need quickly. We work very hard but try to have a little fun too.

Students will have a strong foundation in technique and classic repertoire. But because I compose music, played gospel music in a black church, and played for ballet, I can seamlessly teach many different styles of music.
Lessons are structured into several sections. We begin with technical exercises, then repertoire be it classical or modern. It could be from a score or completely by ear. I like to teach a mix of classical and contemporary music. I write and record music for solo piano as well, so I remain open to almost any style as long as the student is also getting the technique, theory, and foundations that they need.
If a student wishes to learn a particular piece of music I will learn it as well, be it from a score or by ear. In this way I can teach the exact phrasing, fingering and dynamics of each song in detail. Below you will see a song I wrote; the ambient parts are done by the Finnish Film director Antti Kuivalienen who I collaborate with.
