I studied English and earned my MA in English language and literature because of my interest in languages and my love for literature and writing.
Music is my other very important love and something I had to pursue in my life. Since 2008, I have worked as a self-employed songwriter and performer. You can find me under my pseudonym Catself.
I also would like to continue teaching English because this is an area where I have a lot to offer. Teaching individually is possible alongside my music work.

I believe in the solid command of grammar as the foundation of language learning, and am not a fan of the "never mind the grammar, just speak" approach.
At the same time, I think grammar should come together with other aspects of language learning.
In my individual lessons, I like to proceed with grammar quickly enough in order to give the student the tools to express themselves naturally as soon as possible. I like to base each lesson on a grammar issue and then use it as an "excuse" for conversation and the widening of the vocabulary.
When teaching English one-to-one, I am able to meet the student's needs in a way that will make it possible for them make progress fast.
I have taught students at various levels and with different needs, including special needs students, with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. I have prepared several students for final school exams.
I like using English as much as possible when teaching, not only because it is easier for me but because it brings faster and better results, but I do understand Finnish.
As for the materials I use: for grammar exercises, I have usually chosen "English Grammar in Use" by Raymond Murphy. For reading comprehension, I use various texts depending on the students' interests. When possible, I like using short stories, songs, poetry.
I believe a language lesson can and should be a moment of fun and escape from reality, also when it is intense and challenging. I aim at making it such a special time, both for my students and for me.
